An open letter to my bullies – Keyanna Gotay

Dear bullies,

It’s been years since we last saw each other. You probably don’t remember me however, I remember you. You probably don’t remember what you said to me however, I do.

You called me all sorts of things, told me I didn’t know what I was and that I just “didn’t want to be Black.”

That I was a fake “Spanish” girl and that I was confused.

You never made feel welcomed and I never seemed to fit in with anyone.
However, a decade later I thank you bullies.

I thank you because the things you did and said pushed me to be proud of who I am, proud of my melanin and proud of my culture.

A decade ago I didn’t want to go to school anymore because of you bullies.

Now I’m weeks away from a degree.
A decade ago I wanted to completely erase the fact that I was “different”.

Now I’m proud to be different.

It’s been years since we last saw each other. You probably don’t remember me however, I remember you. You probably don’t remember what you said to me however, I do.

Thank you bullies for being part of why I am how I am.

Keyanna. Let me tell you, that I am so proud of you, because you never let that the bad comments of your partner from kindergarden to the college affected your choice or your decision to climb the hill or the mountain and stook on it the Flag Of Your VICTORY. Congrat to you for the effort that you add or you puted in all of these years against the bulling, to taste right now your firstfruit of the well willing to your life. Welcome to the Hall of Winners.
